SAMBRA Western Cape Region held its General Meeting on Thursday the 5th April 2018 at the offices of the RMI is Parow.
Mr Bhekani Mnikathi, Stakeholder Liaison Officer of Rand Mutual Assurance (RMA), was invited to present an overview and a guide for members to understand compensation for injuries and diseases in the workplace. The presentation was well articulated and resulted in a vibrant Q&A session. The question of medical tests for existing staff and new staff were debated and members have clearer understanding of best practices in this regard. Bhekani assured members of the RMA’s availability and willingness to assist members and to provide further clarity on a one to one basis.
The second half of the meeting focused on:
- SAMBRA’s marketing and strategic objectives going forward,
- On-going industry challenges,
- And insurer behaviour and demands.
Audatex and the ability of estimators and insurance assessors to apply the system features consistently and fairly was robustly questioned and debated.
Sustainable labour and paint rates and recent insurer increases were under-scored as a major concern.
Bureau Veritas and VDQ registration, application and participation, although slow is being accepted and embraced by members in the region.
Due to strong and active Executive Committee members, the broader membership is positive, and confidence in SAMBRA has improved substantially.
We look forward to our next General Meeting where other Industry Partners will present an information session.
