After months of preparation, hard work and determination, Mesuli Nande Gxalaba has returned home from WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, where he proudly represented South Africa in Auto Body Repair.
While Mesuli did not bring home a medal, his achievement in reaching the international competition is itself a significant accomplishment. At just 21, the Bloemfontein-based apprentice from Technicolour Autobody Repair, a SAMBRA-accredited workshop, has competed against some of the best young skills talent in the world – an experience that will undoubtedly shape his career for years to come.
His journey from winning gold at the WorldSkills South Africa national competition to competing on the global stage has been one of growth, discipline and continuous learning. The intensive preparation strengthened not only his technical ability, but also his precision, efficiency, confidence and understanding of the international standards expected in modern collision repair.
SAMBRA congratulates Mesuli on an outstanding achievement and thanks his coach, Vuyane Ndamane of Motheo TVET College, as well as everyone who supported his journey.
For us, Mesuli is a winner – not simply because of a medal, but because he had the courage, commitment and skill to take on the world. His journey is an inspiration to other young people considering a career in motor body repair and a powerful reminder of the talent being developed within South Africa’s industry.
