On Saturday, 16 May 2026, industry members and SAMBRA Eastern Cape gathered for a highly successful and engaging Industry Insights Forum, where valuable discussions, presentations, and demonstrations highlighted the future direction of the automotive repair and refinish sector.

The event brought together key industry stakeholders, suppliers, training institutions, and workshop representatives for a day focused on innovation, collaboration, safety, and skills development. Members who attended contributed greatly to the success of the forum, creating meaningful discussions around the challenges and opportunities facing the industry today.

Suppliers showcase innovation and industry support

One of the highlights of the day was an informative presentation by Dulux, who shared valuable insight into the products and services they offer to the automotive refinish industry. Their presentation focused on product innovation, support solutions, and industry partnerships. To add to the excitement of the day, Dulux also awarded prizes to three lucky members in attendance, Komani Panelbeaters, Body Right Panelbeaters and Dentrite.

Preparing workshops for the EV future

The forum hosts, Kelston BYD, delivered an important presentation on electric vehicle (EV) safety standards and the growing impact of EV technology within the repair industry. Members received valuable guidance on the high safety standards required when working on EVs, as well as reassurance regarding parts availability across Kelston’s expanding EV vehicle brands. Their message reinforced the importance of preparing workshops and technicians for the rapid evolution of vehicle technology.

Skills development remains a priority

Education and skills development also formed a key part of the day’s programme. Baysville Technical High School showcased a video presentation highlighting the school’s impressive facilities and the excellent work being done to develop future talent within the automotive sector. The presentation served as a reminder of the importance of investing in young people and creating sustainable pathways into the industry.

Member Conversation and Participation

Members also participated in a discussion surrounding the Block Exemption and the positive impact a favourable outcome could have on the broader automotive aftermarket industry. The conversation highlighted the importance of fair competition, access to information, and industry sustainability.

Training and skills development remained a central focus throughout the forum. Discussions included the ongoing revision and updating of apprentice training material to incorporate EV technology and modern vehicle systems. Attention was also given to ARPL applications and various funded training initiatives aimed at helping businesses and employees remain competitive and aligned with an ever-evolving industry landscape.

Vehicle experience and display

To conclude the event, attendees were invited to experience a range of vehicles on display through test drives, providing an exciting and practical demonstration of the latest automotive technologies available in the market.

The Industry Insights Forum proved to be an informative, interactive, and forward-thinking event that reinforced the value of collaboration within the industry. With strong member participation and positive engagement throughout the day, the forum has laid an excellent foundation for many more successful events in the future.
